Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir is the pride of the beautiful Kashmir valley. It is located in the western part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir in the northernmost region of India. The Jhelum River flows right through the middle of the city. The Dal Lake that acts as the main attraction for the tourists for its houseboats and scenic beauty lies in the middle of Srinagar.

How to reach:

Srinagar is connected by air with Delhi, the nearest International airport. However they city does not have a railway station. The nearest railhead is Jammu Tawi at a distance of 305 kms. Apart from that Srinagar is also well connected with other important cities of North India like Chandigarh, Delhi, Jammu, Leh, Kargil, Gulmarg, Sonmarg and Pahalgam. There are many tourist organizations available in the city that offers permitted tourist vehicles to ease the local transportations.

Places of Interest:

The river and the lakes of Srinagar, India has always remained the center of attraction for the tourists. Some of the famous to name a few are the Dal and the Nagin lakes. The exclusivity of the lakes lies in the lush wild gardens of lotus and water lily's amidst the bustling lanes of the houseboats also called as the Shikaras. The Nishat Bagh and Sahlimar Bagh gardens that were once developed by the Mohgul Monarchs that spread by the side of Dal Lake are all examples of patterned beauty.

Shopping:

Srinagar, India is well known for Kashmiri handicrafts. The place has been a seat of the traditional Kashmiri weavers who produces fine and eloquent shawls, woolen wears and carpets. Pashmina shawls are famous all over the world for their warmth and lightness. Apart from these other things that may be off tourist interest are the traditional Kashmiri garments and dry fruits.

Undoubtedly it can be said that no other tourist destination in India can be so much romantic or enchanting as Srinagar, India.
