Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem which opened in 1992 is one of the most popular museums in Jerusalem and is also considered as one of the most attractive places of sightseeing in Jerusalem. It was the brainchild of Dr. Elie Borowski, a passionate scholar of ancient Middle Eastern civilization, and his wife. The Borowskis couple gave the museum a good beginning by donating their rich private collection, which they had accumulated over 40 years.

The Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem focuses on the cultures of all the peoples mentioned in the Bible from Egypt eastwards across the Fertile Crescent to Afghanistan, and from Nubia north to the Caucasian mountains.
You will come to know of the Philistines and the Arameans, the Hittites and the Elamites, the Poenicians and the Persians. The exhibits are arranged chronologically, with artifacts from different cultures from the same time period placed side by side.
The collection features many interesting works of art from Ancient Egypt, Syria, Anatolia, Mesopotamia and Persia. The wide variety of objects includes ancient inscriptions, jewelry, mosaics, seals, ivory carvings and scarabs. Specific highlights include a 4th-century sarcophagus of Julia Latronilla, with a bas-relief depiction of the life of Jesus; an Egyptian cosmetics container in the shape of a swimming girl; a Minoan terra-cotta sarcophagus, painted in bright colors with folk motifs; and a 1st-century AD Roman linen shroud painted with the serene image of a woman.
