Foreign Embassies & Consulates in Jerusalem

In 1950, Jerusalem was proclaimed capital of Israel, after which it has been the legislative, judicial, and executive center of the country. However, as Jerusalem was a bone of contention between Israel and Jordan, only West Jerusalem was considered Israel's capital. The 1967 Six-Day War saw East Jerusalem being incorporated into Israel as well, and saw the 1980 Basic Law: Jerusalem, Capital of Israel, which declared that both East and West Jerusalem would together be the capital of Israel. This resulted in the non-binding United Nations Security Council Resolution 478 declaring that all member states should withdraw their Foreign Embassies & Consulates in Jerusalem.

Only two United Nations members have their Foreign Embassies & Consulates in Jerusalem, namely Costa Rica and El Salvador. However, even they have stated in August 2006 that they intend to move their Foreign Embassies & Consulates in Jerusalem to Tel Aviv. Yet, there are quite a few Foreign Embassies & Consulates in Jerusalem, belonging to countries such as Armenia, Belgium, Netherlands, Sweden, United States of America, United Kingdom, and Greece.
