Museum of Jewish Diaspora Tel Aviv
The Museum of Jewish Diaspora Tel Aviv is located on the campus of the Tel Aviv University . It was established in the year 1978 and is one of the famous Museums in Tel Aviv . This museum is committed to the Jewish community and has past documents and arts related to the Jewish life. The museum beautifully captures the struggle and the hardships of the Jewish community from the time of their extrusion from Israel to the present day.The Museum of Jewish Diaspora Tel Aviv was the brainchild of Dr. Nahum Goldmann , a renowned Jewish leader and founder of the World Jewish Congress. World Jewish Congress is a confederation of the Jewish communities. It occurred to him that a monument for the Jewish struggle and about their culture should be made which will help the coming generations to know about their community. Poet Abba Kovner suggested that the museum's permanent displays should be divided into six thematic parts.
In May 1978 when the Museum was started for public viewing it got a overpowering response from the Jewish community. The first director of the Museum, Jesaja Weinberg in his famous statement told about the purpose of this museum. This museum will serve as a education and communication channel for the Jewish community who were about to lose their historical identities.
The use of modern techniques and audio-video display equipments helps in quick learning and absorbing the details. There are six different categories of exhibition besides online, virtual and traveling exhibitions.
The permanent exhibits are in a separate floor with a large study area.
