Statue of A Bomb Children Hiroshima
The atom bomb of Hiroshima had taken away numerous lives including that of children whose lives where cut short in the horrendous incident. The statue depicts a girl with outstretched hands with a crane rising above her.Though the statue is dedicated to children in general there is an extremely personal angle to the whole statue. A twelve year old girl wanted to live in this world but the tragedy was that she was suffering from leukemia which was caused from the radiation of the atom bomb.
In the hope of staying alive she folded some one thousand paper cranes but to no avail, she lost her life and her friends were reminded of the harmful fallouts of the atom bomb once again. This motivated them to construct a statue for the peace and happiness of mankind.
Even to this particular day the statue receives folded cranes which are then placed near the statue, these cranes are displayed to present a message of world peace. The cranes are later recycled into notebooks, bookmarks and other items which are later put up for sale.
This is perhaps the most fitting memorial to children who have had an untimely death anywhere in the world, grim reminder to the adults to behave like one and let better senses prevail.
