Any tour of Japan is incomplete without a visit to one of the numerous restaurants in Japan. Japan is renowned for its exotic cuisine and there are countless restaurants interspersed in the country that offer Japanese cuisine. The cuisine of Japan boasts of many delicacies that have not only become popular in Japan but also in other countries of Asia, America and Europe. There are several specialized Japanese restaurants, which specialize in just one type of food. Most of the Sushi-ya restaurants allow customers to sit at a normal table or the customer can also have their food at a counter.
Kaiten-zushi: Kaiten-zushi restaurants also offer sushi. But then these restaurants offer sushi dishes on a conveyor belt, form where the customers can pick their favorite dish. Ramen-ya: Ramen-ya restaurants particularize in ramen dishes. These restaurants offer Chinese style noodles and soup along with a variety of toppings. Other Chinese dishes like gyoza and fried rice are also available in these restaurants.
Kare-ya: Kare-ya restaurants only offer curry rice (kareraisu) dishes. These kinds of restaurants can be frequently seen in almost all the major railway stations of Japan.
Tonkatsu-ya: Tonkatsu-ya restaurants specialize in tonkatsu, which are deep fried breaded pork cutlets. Many deep fried breaded pork cutlets Tonkatsu-ya restaurants also offer Korokke and other deep fried dishes.
Gyudon-ya: Gyudon-ya are restaurants that offer gyudon (beef domburi). These are cheap and fast food style restaurants.
Okonomiyaki-ya: Okonomiyaki-ya restaurants particularize in okonomiyaki and some of the Okonomiyaki-ya restaurants also offer monjayaki. The specialty of these restaurants is that the customers usually prepare the okonomiyaki on a hot plate which is built into the table.
Yakitori-ya: Yakitori-ya restaurants offers yakitori or grilled chicken skewers. These kinds of restaurants enjoy popularity amongst salarymen after work.
Tempura-ya: Tempura-ya restaurants specialize in tempura dishes that include tendon (tempura domburi) and assorted tempura.
Unagi-ya: Unagi-ya are restaurants that offer unagi dishes like unajuu and unadon (unagi domburi).
Sukiyaki-ya: Sukiyaki-ya restaurants specialize in dishes like sukiyaki and shabu-shabu. These restaurants are on the expensive side and are few in number.
