Kobe, the cosmopolitan port city in Japan exudes a peculiar charm. It stands along a narrow tract of land squeezed in between the mountains and the sea. Meriken Park is a beautiful park that lies along the sea front of Kobe, Japan. This park was opened in the year 1987 to memorialize the 120th anniversary of the opening of the Harbor of Kobe. The Meriken Park is five minutes away from Motomachi Station. It lies in close proximity to the Kobe Harbor land.

The earthquake of 1995 ravaged the Meriken Park and one can find here a small memorial that commemorates the people who lost their lives in the port area due to the shattering earthquake. The ruined part of waterfront, which was devastated by the earthquake, has also been preserved as a reminder of the cataclysmic power of the earthquake.

Apart from these the Meriken Park also houses the Kobe Port Tower, which is the symbol of the Kobe city and the Kobe Maritime Museum that looks like a sailing ship with its roofs made of white pipelines.
