The Fujii-dera Temple located at the outskirts of Osaka is the fifth temple on the Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage route, which includes 33 temples. Here you can get a glimpse of the wisteria blossoms in full bloom from the period between April and May.
Nestled between the twin waterways of Yamatogawa and its tributary, the Ishikawa, Osaka arches itself over these rivers so as to provide recreation to tourists. The banks of the canal are hemmed in by the levees or embankments in order to protect the surrounding lowland from flooding. In the year 1959, the settlements of Fujii-dera-cho and Domyoji-cho were merged to construct the Fujii-dera-Domyoji-cho. In the succeeding year, the township was re-christened Misasagi-cho. The contemporary city of Fujii-dera shi came into being on November 1, 1966. The lately demolished Fujii-dera Stadium was used by the Japanese baseball team that was renamed the Kintetsu Buffaloes.
Two of the major attractions in Osaka are the tomb of Emperor Ingyo, the 19 th emperor of Japan, and the Shinto shrine of Domyoji-Tenmangu. The monarch reigned in the 5 th century AD for a period of 41 years and brought about a reformation in the establishment of the family and the process of attributing clan names. The Domyoji-Tenmangu is a memorial devoted to the Tenjin (kami) and is located at a short distance from the Domyoji Station. Tenjin is the Shinto kami or auspicious object of veneration, as well as a term for “god” or “deity”. In this context, Tenjin becomes the scholarship that deified the Japanese poet and political figure of the 10 th century AD, Sugawara no Michizane.
