Wine Museum

Wine Museum

The history of wine in Japan goes back to the ancient times when the grape-growing began at Yamanashi for the first time. At that time, wine may have been made from local grapes and consumed very locally. Wine was the natural choice for the people in Yamanshi for it was a land least rainfall and of less fertile soil – unfavorable condition for growing rice or producing sake or rice wine. It was in the year 1875 when the first commercial winery was established in Yamanashi, which is now a part of Mercian winery, the second largest company in Japan.

Although not naturally suited to viniculture, Japan is witnessing an emerging wine market and rapidly changing wine drinking habits. Wine is now an important daily beverage in Japanese life. The most historical of all beverages, wine has got several museums in Japan dedicated to it. The Kawachi Wine Museum and the Fureai Minatokan Wine Museum are the two most prominent wine museums in the city in Osaka which must not be missed while you go on a tour to Osaka. Not only the wine connoisseurs, but anyone with an interest in life and culture of other people, must visit these museums.
