Shinjuku Pitt Inn
Jazz seems to have found a new home for itself and the new home is the Japanese capital of Tokyo and it has managed to strike a chord among a large audience. The city of Tokyo has a large number of jazz clubs which have been dishing out the best of Jazz music over the last few decades or so.This has imbibed jazz in the popular culture of the city and the people coming from outside should surely try to get a feel of this jazz culture.
One place where you can get a proper understanding of the Jazz scenario is the Shinjuku pit inn which is bright example of a jazz and blues club and is backed by a legacy which goes over a few decades, nearly thirty five years to be precise. This place is considered as an elderly statesman of the jazz clubs in Tokyo and has a tremendous fan following.
The place however has changed locations and has a dash of newness thrown into it along with the nostalgic elements that come along. The club features both foreign as well as home grown musicians and has a matinee show also to cater to the music loving people.
The place is notorious for not having proper grub so it is better to stuff oneself and come to the club only to enjoy the music. The matinee performance is certainly the unique selling proposition of this jazz and blues club.
One of the must sees of the club is a performance by the pianist karashima Fumio who leads a quartet and performs original straight head jazz numbers.
Some of the artists like Maki Asakawa has been performing in the club for over thirty years and has been enthralling the audiences ever since.
