A country firmly in the grips of Beckham-mania following the 2002 World Cup, Japan did not delay in taking warmly to Hobgoblin either. This is evident from the brisk business that all the Hobgoblin outlets in Tokyo do over the course of the week.

Hobgoblin presents a refreshing spectacle when compared to most other bars in Tokyo and this is partly due to its spacious interiors. All the outlets of Hobgoblin, Tokyo attract foreigners in huge numbers and the ambience is so designed to make them feel quite at home. For instance, at the Roppongi outlet of Hobgoblin, you have a backroom with standing tables for those who prefer the English way of downing their drinks, on the one hand and on the other, you have the sit-down tables that are more American in flavor.
Still harping on the issue of ambience, Hobgoblin, a one-of-its-kind amongst the various Tokyo pubs, strives for a truly English pub-feel. So you have herein, interiors done up in wood and dart boards strewn here and there.
The music here is diverse and ranges from the only slightly passable to the Foo Fighters.

The clientele at the Hobgoblin is as cosmopolitan as can be, and presents quite a contrast from some of the other bars in Japan. You have a sizeable European footfall, happily mingling with the Japanese guests. However, the guest list consists mainly of business persons. There are also lot of the fairer sex frequenting the Hobgoblin and with their sophistication, charm and elegance, they are a sure delight to mix with.
Food And Drinks At The Hobgoblin
Keeping true to their English lineage, Hobgoblin, Tokyo also serves fares that are a straight lift from a standard English pub menu. Thus, except for the Japanese Asahi, most of the beer in the bar is European. You have a wide choice from Guinness, Heineken, Stella Artois, Corona and Red Hook to Sapporo and Jacob’s Creek Shiraz and of course, the ubiquitous Hobgoblin.
The Hobgoblin is probably a rarity amongst the Japanese bars in that it has on offer Shepherd’s Pie. Apart from the British fare, Hobgoblin also serves autumn salad, Buffalo wings and hummus.These food items are variously priced from around 900 yens to about 1,400 yens.
The Hobgoblin outlets are open from around 11:30am to 2pm during the daytime and from around five in the evening to about one the next morning.
With presences such as the Hobgoblin and the Mogambo, nightlife in Tokyo gives you ample scope to have a jolly good time and in a way you like.
