The History Of The Old Imperial Bar

Old Imperial Bar, Tokyo flaunts an illustrious history. It is housed in the mezzanine floor of the legendary Imperial Hotel in the Ginza district of Tokyo, quite near the Imperial Palace.

The original Imperial Hotel, an architectural masterpiece from Frank Lloyd Wright, dates back to the 1920s. Natural calamities and incessant Allied bombing during the 2nd World War almost razed the hotel. A new structure came up on the same site during the 1970s infused with the vestiges of the earlier edifice. Since then the Imperial, Tokyo commands a sizeable fan following and the Old Imperial Bar herein is attracting a steady stream of bar regulars.

About The Old Imperial Bar

Amongst the various Tokyo bars, the Old Imperial Bar certainly sports an ambience like none other. Its interiors are an interesting blend of contrasts. A huge colorful mosaic pattern adorns the lion’s share of one wall and presents a stark contrast to the nude brick and wooden walls around. Then again you have bright arc lights jostling for your attention with the subtly lamps. There are leather benches, comfy armchairs and poufs strewn here and there for you to snuggle in with a drink and a bite.

Its contrasting components notwithstanding, there’s nothing overwhelming and austere about the interiors at the Old Imperial Bar. The mood is relaxing and the company, mostly erudite and refined.

Remember, this is not just like any of the other Tokyo pubs and the navel-pierced, punk-hairstyled, bubblegum-chewing crowd is more likely to be found at the Rainbow Lounge, situated on the top floor of the Imperial, Tokyo.

Old Imperial Bar opens everyday at 11:30 am and closes down at 12 midnight.

The Drinks At The Old Imperial Bar

The fare at the Old Imperial Bar is varied and has something from almost all the corners of the world. Gracing the list is the Tinkerbell, one of the four original cocktails of the Imperial Hotel, Tokyo. Given the eclectic atmosphere here, pricey drinks are only to be expected. Drinks start from around 1,000 yen here and come with peanuts and rice crackers. Along with the atmosphere of course.
