Mitsuo Aida Museum

The Mitsuo Aida Museum, located in the Ginza area of Tokyo is a museum dedicated to the famous Japanese calligrapher and poet Mitsuo Aida. The museum houses the works of art of this famous master.

Mitsuo Aida was a famous brush-ink calligrapher and poet who was born in the year 1924 in the town of Ashikaga in the Tochigi Prefecture of Japan. He joined the poetry group in the year 1942 under the guidance of Mutsu Yamashita. The poet later on met a Zen priest called Tetsurou Takei, who became his mentor for life. The poet held his first exhibition in the year 1954. During his lifetime he studied wax printing and designing of wrapping paper. He died in the year 1991. The Mitsuo Aida Museum was established in the year 1996 in order to display the original works of this great poet.

The Mitsuo Aida Museum in Tokyo houses a total of 70 to 80 original works of the legendary calligrapher. The articles displayed over here include calligraphy work, batik works, artifacts and other works of art belonging to Mitsuo Aida. The most famous of the masters work displayed over here is 'The Here and Now'. This book contains a whole list of poems and written by the poet. Other popular works of art that are worth checking out over here include the books 'A Phrase by my side' and 'Talking to'. The translated version of the books is available from the shop of the museum and one can purchase them if required.

The museum also has a video room where one can see scenes from the life and times of the calligrapher Mitsuo Aida. The museum has a number of exhibition halls where a large number of events are also held from time to time. Some of the popular events that were held over here include

The museum has a parking space, where one can park one's car for a certain fee. There are a good number of restrooms for the convenience of the visitors. The museum also has a shop from where one can buy post cards, cassettes, books, brochures, videotapes, prints and other articles.

The museum is open on all days, except Mondays. The visiting hours are from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Entry to the museum is not free. The entry fee, however, are different for different categories of visitors. The rates for school children are less compared to the rates for university students. In order to get to the Mitsuo Aida Museum, one can take a train to Ginza Station and then walk from here. One can also take a train to the JR Yurakucho station and then walk for three minutes to this tourist attraction.
