The Studio Ghibli Museum is a fine arts museum situated in the western suburb of Mitaka in Tokyo. This fantastic museum displays the works produced by Studio Ghibli.

The Studio Ghibli Museum is situated in the western part of the Inokashira Park in the city of Tokyo. The museum is maintained by Studio Ghibli, the producers and creators of Japanese animation. The museum was built in the year 2001. The idea to create such a museum where the visitors can be at ease and get to see something interesting and different was conceptualized by Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli in the year 1997. Construction of the building started in the year 1999 and ended in 2001.

The museum is an architectural marvel and a fine example of human creativity. It has two stories above the ground level and one story below ground level. The entire museum occupies a floor area of around 4000 square meters and ahs a height of 11.98 meters. The Ghibli Museum has one huge entrance hall, a central hall, numerous exhibition rooms, theatres, archives rooms, equipment rooms, cafes, shops and an office. The buildings are extremely colorful and the decorations superb. It is a perfect place to spend time with your family. The museum has a sprawling campus with a labyrinthine interior. The signs inside the museums are all written in Japanese. However, the museum brochure provides information in other languages also for the convenience of the international tourists.

The two floors of the museum are connected by a staircase as well as a spiral staircase. There is also a sculpture garden situated on top of the museum. The museum building has stained glass windows with Ghibli characters. The most famous of them all is that of 'Kiki's delivery service'. The central hall has a huge dome with a ceiling fan whose blades are shaped like wings of an airplane.

One of the biggest attractions of the museum is the life-sized statue of a robot from the animation 'Castle in the Sky'. Visitors can check out the numerous rooms in the museum. There are total of five room sin this museum which clearly tells one how an animation film is made. The most popular of all the room is the one named 'Where a film is Born'. This room is filled with a large number of books and toys and the walls have beautiful illustrations. One can check out the model of an airplane hanging from the ceiling of this room. Some of the major displays of this museum include the Laputa Block, a giant soft toy called Catbus, the 'Bouncing Totoro' and others. You can watch movies in the museum theatre or try out the goodies and snacks served in the Straw Hat Café. The museum also has a shop called 'Mamma Aiuto' from where you can buy souvenirs and gift items. One can also check out the books in the 'Tri Hawks' reading rooms.

One requires a ticket to enter the museum. Tickets have to be bought in advance, as the museum is extremely popular amongst the tourists. Photography is not allowed inside its premises. Getting to this place is easy. One can take a bus from Mitaka train station or take a train to Mitaka station along the JR Chuo Main Line and then walk from here to the museum.

The Studio Ghibli Museum is one of the most famous and popular tourist attractions of the city. The museum with its creative displays takes you on a journey to the land of animation and color.
