Kinuta Park

Kinuta Park

Everyone knows that Tokyo is not at all famous for its greenery. However, one taking a stroll at Kinuta Park in Setagaya would surely think of the issue whether the great industrial city has anything kept with it, which is so green as well as soothing for eyes. Indeed, what Kinuta Park features, is good enough to make tourists grasp that macadamized Tokyo is also grassy.

The park was opened in April 1, 1957. After the Pacific War (World War II), it was a public golf course. The total area of the park is 391,262.26 m². Out of this arena, 240,000 m² are covered with grass.

Cherry Blossoms
Talking of Kinuta Park and no mention of Cherry Blossoms can not gbe done at all. In Japan these blossoms are called sakura. One thing the park is famous for is cherry blossom viewing. If you make a visit to this park, you will see there are at least three varieties-Someyoshino (photo), Yamazakura, and Yaezakura. These varieties make for a relatively long viewing season of over two weeks.

Facilities
There are immense facilities inside the premises of the park. Youngsters having a passion for Baseball will find large fields to play. Besides, there is also Soccer fields inside the park. Cycling courses are done here, too. However, apart from the cherry blossoms what has been attracting people to this green landscape is the Setagaya Art Museum. The 1667 m cycling course doubles as a walking course outside the hours 9-16.
