Boasting a large variety of attractions, Ueno Park is a large public park just next to Ueno Station. This park is well-known for its art museums. You can visit here the Tokyo National Museum, the Orient Museum, the National Science Museum, the Shitamachi Museum, the National Museum for Western Art and the Tokyo Metropolitan Fine Art Gallery. Well, apart from that the park has its own greenery consisted of more than 1000 cherry trees.

The green landscape of this park is indeed eye-catching. Besides, the blooming cherry blossoms contribute to the beauty of the park so much that during the cherry blossom season, Ueno Park becomes one of the country's most popular and crowded spots for hanami (cherry blossom viewing) parties.

Since 1882, Ueno Park has been housing Japan's first zoological garden. Its prime attraction is giant panda bears. The first panda bears were landed on Tokyo as a gift from China on the occasion of normalization of diplomatic relations in 1972. These animals will obviously fuel up your adventure during your tour to this park.

You will find a statue of Saigo Takamori at the park's south entrance. Takamori was an important personality of the late Edo and early Meiji Period. He played a vital role in realizing the Meiji Restoration of 1868. Besides, there is another shrine named Toshogu Shrine. This is a temple devoted to Tokugawa Ieyasu. Tokugawa Ieyasu was the founder of the Edo shogunate, which ruled Japan from 1603 to 1867.

You should pay the 200 Yen admission fee in order to enter the inner shrine area and main building.

There is also a large pond in the park. Its name is Shinobazu Pond. A temple for the goddess of Benten stands on the islet in the mid of the pool.
