Yoyogi Park

Yoyogi Park is called Yoyogi Koen in Japanese. This is one of the largest and beautiful parks in Tokyo. The park is located nearby Harajuku Station and Meiji Shrine in Shibuya. Making a visit to this park will not only allow you to enjoy the greenery and flowers in the arena, but also permit you to get involved in various fun filled activities for which tourists have been attracting to this park for years.

This is a well-liked hangout, particularly on Sundays, when it is availed as an assembly for people to play music, practice martial arts, etc. Lots of activities are at hand inside the park premises. The park has a bike path. Besides, bicycle rentals are also available inside the arena.

As a result of Japan's long decline, there are several large, but astonishingly calm and arranged, homeless camps around the park's margin. These are somewhat like the Hoovervilles during the Great Depression in the USA. This park was open in 1967 after the Tokyo Olympics. It's a huge park with lots of trees. Flea markets often are hold here.

Recently Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara has announced his plans to build a 100,000-capacity stadium in Yoyogi Park in order to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Yoyogi Koen (Yoyogi Park) is one of Tokyo's largest city parks, featuring wide lawns, ponds and forested areas. Apart from its greenery, it is a great place for jogging, picnicking and other outdoor activities.

Though Yoyogi Park has somewhat few cherry trees compared to other sites in Tokyo, it makes a pleasant cherry blossom viewing spot in spring. In addition, it is recognized for its ginko tree forest, which turns intensively golden in autumn.

This park is a 3-5 minute walk from Harajuku Station on the JR Yamanote Line.
