The National Stadium, Kuala Lumpur is one of the most important and famous sports center of the city. Forming part of the national Sports Complex, this huge stadium is designed to host a large number of events.

The National Stadium is located in the Bukit Jalil area of the city of Kuala Lumpur. It is an outdoor stadium, which occupies a total area of 76000 square meters. It is elliptical or bowl shaped and has three tiers where the spectators can sit and enjoy the events. It has a total seating capacity of 100000 and there are 200 seats meant for the disabled visitors. The construction of the building was started in the year in 1994 and was completed in the year 1998.

The huge stadium has all the modern features and facilities that make it one of the most preferred venue for a large number of international sports events. The huge field is surrounded by a 400-meter tartan track, which matches the international standards and specifications. It also has a nine-meter wide and a 400-meter long synthetic track lane also. There is also a separate track for warm up sessions. The main track of the stadium has a number of pits meant for steeplechases. The seats of the stadium are multi-colored and create a marvelous view when the stadium is not in use.

The roof of the National Stadium is made of a translucent polyurethane material. It is huge enough to provide complete shelter to the huge crowd coming to see the events. The main entrance of the stadium is decorated with beautiful and traditional Malaysian paintings and carvings. The stadium serves as avenue for football matches, races and other games. In the year 1998, it played host to the opening and the closing ceremonies of the commonwealth games.
