Getting to Langkawi by Train
The archipelago of Langkawi consisting of 99 tropical islands is a magnificent holiday destination with pleasant beaches, rich marine life, limestone formations, caverns with striking stalactites and stalagmites, verdant old rainforests and charming ancient villages.Langkawi is located off the north-western shore of Malaysian Peninsula and lies at a distance of 30km from Kuala Perlis. The main island of Langkawi is known as Pulau Langkawi.
One can travel to Malaysia by different ways. However Langkawi can be reached directly only through air or sea. You can either avail the air services by Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia and Silk Air or ferry services to Lankawi.
Apart from this you can also travel by road or rail. In case of rail, you will not be able to reach directly and you will have to stop at the nearest station to Langkawi and then travel by road or water.
Economical and comfortable rail services are provided by Malayan railway or Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) from Kuala Lumpur to Arau or Alor Setar in Indonesia. The Senandung Langwawi Express plies daily from KL Central, Padang Besar/ Haadyai and Butterworth. You can board the train from KL Central and stop at the nearest station to Langkawi either at Alor Setar (Kedah) or Arau(Perlis).
If you want to travel in luxury, you can take the Air Conditioned Day/Night First class (ADNF).The ADNF has eight cabins in every coach.each cabin has two sleeping berths, private-air conditioning, wall fan and wash basin with necessary toiletries.
After you reach Arau or Alor Setar, you can take a cab otr hire a car and reach Kuala Kedah or Kuala Perlis. Then take a ferry to Langwawi.
