NOTICE OF PENANG BUTTERFLY FARM TEMPORARY CLOSURE - EXTENDED

Due to the unforeseen rainy weather in the month of May has caused inevitable disruption on the upgrading work at Penang Butterfly Farm. Therefore, its temporary closure period will be extended until 5 JUNE 2011.

Penang Butterfly Farm will be reopened to public on 6 JUNE 2011 and its visiting hours will be revised to 9:00am – 6:00pm (last entry at 5:00pm) DAILY including public holidays.

The management hereby apologizes for any inconvenience caused and we thank you for your patience.

Penang Butterfly Farm shares the glory of being the first tropical butterfly farm ever set up in the whole world. Penang Butterfly Farm was established in1986 and it is situated in Telok Bahang.

Features of Penang Butterfly Farm

  -  Penang Butterfly Farm was founded as a live museum with the aim of educating the general public and providing a research centre to develop breeding methods.
  -  David Goh is the founder of Penang Butterfly Farm and the predominant attraction in the Penang Butterfly Farm is the free flying papilions in the huge enclosure.
  -  Penang Butterfly Farm is the home of approximately 120 species of rare and exotic tropical butterflies and a hatchery and a "Preserved Butterflies of the World" museum forms an intrinsic part of the farm.
  -  The visitors can watch the various species of butterflies from close proximity and Penang Butterfly Farm also host exhibitions on selected insects and reptiles which are greatly appreciated and visited by7 the visitors.
  -  Penang Butterfly Farm at present possess a collection of 4000 Malaysian butterflies of 120 different species, including the rare Indian Leafl (Kallima paralekta) and the rare Yellow Bird wing (Troides helena).
  -  Extensive breeding facilities is the primary reason of the miraculous growth and development of the Penang Butterfly Farm
