Malaysia Time Zones

The country Malaysia is in the southeastern part of Asia. Malaysia holidays have an unmatched appeal, attracting thousands of tourists each year from different parts of the world. Like the other countries of the world, the country also has its own time zone. Foreigners and tourists from abroad often wonder what the time would be in Malaysia in respect to the time in their native countries. It helps to have an idea about the Malaysian time zones.

Time zones in Malaysia follow the Malasysia Standard Time or MST. The Time zone of Malaysia is 8 hours ahead of the GMT or the Greenwich Mean Time. That means, when it is 8 o’ clock in the morning in Greenwich, in Malaysia it’s 4 o’ clock in the afternoon. Daylight saving time (DST) is the local time, which is adopted by many countries on a seasonal basis. In this system, the official local time is adjusted by an hour during summer, spring and autumn to obtain the DST. However, Malaysia Time does not operate according to the Daylight-Saving Time.

Malaysia’s time zones are set on the basis of the time in East Malaysia. This is followed in spite of the fact that about 80 percent of Malaysia’s population resides in West Malaysia. Some say that this is probably a conciliatory gesture towards East Malaysia.
