Cinema in Casablanca is synonymous to the classic created in 1942. The film was set in the in the Vichy-controlled Moroccan city of Casablanca during World Wat II. It was not only a finest creation in history of films but it also gave the city a different recognition. Due to its wonderful scenic beauty, Casablanca has been a favorite place for many international directors today.

The history of films in Casablanca in other words is the film history of Morocco, which dates back to 1897 with the making of the film "Le chevalier Marocain." Since then a new trend to make films began among the young talented film makers of Morocco. 1944 marked the establishment of "Moroccan Cinematographic Center" here. Soon after, several studios were opened. The first Moroccan made film was "Le fils maudit," which was filmed in 1985. In 1968, Tangie in Morocco became the venue of the first Mediterranean Film Festival.

Starting from Louis Lumière, Orson Welles to Alfred Hitchcock and David Lean, Morocco has been successful in creating a strong impact in their creative minds. So following the path of Louis Lumiere, Orson Welles went about filming "Othello" here, with Alfred Hitchcock's "The Man Who Knew Too Much" and David Lean's "Lawrence of Arabia."
