The locomotive, number H199, climbed 265m (869ft) up the 4.8km (3 mile) Rimutaka Incline using John Barraclough Fell's distinctive method of four grip wheels on a raised center rail. Although the locomotive is not in steam, and is driven by an electric motor, visitors can watch the internal as well as external motion.
