One of the famous and most visited one is the Oil and Gas Museum. It is a popular site among the Tourist attractions in Muscat.

In 1995, the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) donated the Oil and Gas Museum to the people of Oman. Going through the Oil and Natural Museum of Muscat is like a historical journey through Oman's discovery of oil to its present position as a major producer of oil and natural gas in the world. It is a highly educational tour, both for adults and children alike. Visitors to the museum get many interactive displays on the formation of oil from fossil remains, its extraction and purification up to its use. There are slide shows provided by the museum authorities which vividly describes all these process in details. Children and adults alike find these very informative and enjoying. .

At the Oil and Gas Museum, one gets to know how the fossils were formed out of plants and animals that got buried under the earth by forces of nature. Over the years, the fossils of these plants and animals changed gradually into oil and also into natural gas by the immense pressure and heat of the earth over it.
