Oman is located in the south east corner of the Arabian peninsula, bordering the Indian Ocean. Most of the people in Oman are Arabs, who form the majority of the population. Oman's population also consists of a considerable number of Swahili and Baloch community, who form the minorities. Though the official Language of Oman is Arabic, the minority groups speak their own language which is also included in the list of Oman Language .

The official Language in Oman is Arabic, which in terms of speakers, is the biggest existing member of the Semitic language family. The Arabic language is classified as Central Semitic, and it has very close association with Hebrew and Aramaic languages. There are various types of the Arabic languages which are spoken all across the Arab world and the Standard Arabic is studied and widely known all throughout the Islamic world. Other then Arabic there are few other languages spoken in Oman, especially by the native speakers, which also comes under the Oman Language .

The Oman Language consists of English, Urdu and certain Indian dialects which are spoken by the people coming especially from India and Pakistan. Like many of the oil-rich Persian Gulf Arab countries, Oman also has a sizable number of foreign workers living there, coming mostly from India and Pakistan. Though the official Language in Oman is Arabic, but the minority communities speak their own native languages.

In Dhofar the language spoken is Bathari, a non-Arabic Semitic language. Apart from native speakers of various dialects, there is Baloochi also regarded as offshoots of Southern Arabia, which is a Semitic language related distantly to Arabic. Mainly because of the historical relations between Zanzibar and Oman, Swahili is also spoken very widely in Oman. The Oman Language has also included English as a second language because of which tourists will notice that all the signs in the country are available in both Arabic and English.
