Baguio Public Market Baguio City

It’s the matter of least concern whether you are a shopaholic or not but your trip to Baguio is not complete without sampling the sweet strawberries, long being recognized as the city’s claim-to-fame. With the smell of the tourist dollars the prices soar up in the weekends and the market place is simply flooded with kilos and kilos of bright red strawberries.

The Baguio public Market is located right at the lower end of the Session Road and behind the Maharlika Centre. It is here where you get to do your own bit of shopping and buy different souvenirs typical of Baguio. Like Baguio, it is a ‘melting pot’ of the Cordillera and the lowland products. Like Baguio, it provides a wide variety of items and services. Like Baguio, it can be busy but not stressful. So if there’s any thing that captures the essence of the city of Baguio, it is the Baguio Public Market.

So if you need to have your shoe re-soled or have your dollars changed, if you need to buy strawberries or broomsticks the market has it all. No matter whether you are rich or poor every single person in Baguio goes to the same market The Baguio Public Market is also a visitor’s attraction for: the 4 C’s: clean, cool, cheap and complete.

Back to the inner whorls of the market, all of the Baguio specialties are housed in this confusing maze of stalls. Along with fresh fish and seafood the inner sections sell local treats like peanut brittle, jams made of taro; and chocolate-coated corn flakes. In another narrow alley, the scent of roses fills the air as you reach the cut flower area where roses are dirt cheap. And if you follow the unmistakable whiff of coffee beans, your nose will lead you to the stalls selling dark and rich mountain-grown varieties that are not as expensive as those sold in popular coffee shops.

The Maharlika shopping complex is also an integral part of the public market and at its basement is a food court popular among students, office and retail workers in the downtown area.
