Cebu International Convention Center

Cebu International Convention Center

Cebu International Convention Center, Cebu is one of the most eye-catching structures in Cebu. This three storey structure was built for the 12th Asean Summit and second East Asia Summit. The floor area of the building is twenty eight square meters. Cebu International Convention Center is in Mandaue City Reclamation Area. It was constructed in 2006 by WT Construction and was designed by architect Manuel Guanzon. Though much feted for this gorgeous structure, the Government decided on this structure in late 2005, the original plan for this site was for constructing Cebu Megadrome. Cebu Megadrome was supposed to be a sports complex or center rivaling Araneta Center in Metro Manila, which is Philippines largest sports center till date.

It was announced by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2005, that the Asean Summit in 2006 would be held in Cebu. At that point of time, the island lacked any structure of an international standard and since the aforesaid sports complex was not yet built, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia decided to build the convention center instead. The new design for the new structure was decided on and it was not only a new design, it was cheaper and easier to build and another construction within its neighborhood, Cebu International Trade and Exhibition Center has been decided on. All in all, this convention center is one of the great sight seeing attractions of modern Cebu.
