American Cemetery
American Cemetery in Manila is located about 6 miles south east of Manila. The cemetery contains the largest number of graves soldiers of the U.S. overseas and is located within the Fort Bonifacio that was the former Fort William Mckinely.The American cemetery consists of acres of land where the crosses and the Stars of David abound. The circular memorial in the cemetery also has engraved names on the marble column of the missing soldiers. Here one would find 17,206 graves of the U.S soldiers who died fighting in the World War II.
There is a chapel in the Manila American Cemetery and there are 25 large mosaic maps in the rooms that display the achievement of the U.S. in the Pacific, China, India and Burma. The American Battle Monuments Commission maintains the cemetery.
It is worthwhile to visit the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial where one would be able to find a serene and peaceful environment and above all the dignity with which the soldiers have been laid to rest. The visit to this place would be all together different as it has altogether different story to tell the world and also different from the city life of Manila.
The American Cemetery is open daily from 9 am till 5 pm except on December 25th and January1.
