Sultan Mosque

The Sultan Mosque is located at Muscat Street and North Bridge Road inside the Kampong Glam district of Rochor Planning Area in the city of Singapore. The Sultan Mosque in Singapore or the Sultan Masjid, is considered as one of the most significant and important mosques in Singapore. The mosque is noteworthy for its prayer hall and domes.

Description:

The Singapore Sultan Mosque was named after the first sultan of Singapore. The Sultan Mosque is an imposing structure which was built with a grant of SGD 3,000 from the East India Company. This is the largest mosque in Singapore and the present building of the Sultan Mosque was constructed in the year 1928. Among the existing 80 mosques in Singapore, the Sultan Mosque is the actual center of the Muslim community. The excellent Mughal architecture appeals the tourists. The surprising fact about the mosque is that an Irish man called Denis Santry designed the mosque.

The dome of the Sultan Mosque in Singapore is enormous and crowned with gold. The mosque has a large prayer hall. One particularly interesting feature of the Sultan Mosque is that the base of the dome is made up of glass bottles.

In the evenings, the residents gather at the garden to enjoy the cool light winds which make them feel rejuvenated after the day's exhaustion.
