Singapore Fashion Festival

The Singapore Fashion Festival is one of the most important events of this country. This colorful festival has acquired much fame and popularity around the world and has helped Singapore to earn the reputation of being the fashion capital of Southeast Asia.

The Singapore Fashion Festival was first held on the 16th of March in 2001. Promoted and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, this fashion extravaganza is a two-week long event, which is held every year. The basic idea of starting this festival was to highlight Singapore as a primary and major shopping destination of the world.

This gala event is usually held for a period of 10 days. In the year 2006, this festival was held in Ngee Ann City on orchard road. A huge tent was constructed to conduct this show. Fashion designers and models from all cross the world come to participate in this grand festival. One can get to see the top designers of the world showcasing their creations in this festival. More than 30 international as well as national brands get an opportunity to display their creations to the world in this stunning event. Watching the models sashaying down the ramp dressed in bright, colorful and glamorous clothes are truly a treat for the eyes. In the year 2006, the British supermodel Lily Cole also participated in the Fashion Festival of Singapore. While the spring-summer collections form the major highlights of the festival, some designers also display their autumns-winter collection. Designers and retailers from New York, Milan and Paris get an opportunity to display their collections and creations in this festival.

One should not confuse the Singapore Fashion Festival with the Singapore Fashion Week. The latter events is much more older event held for the pat 10 years. It is more of a trade-oriented event where major focus is on the Singaporean fashion industry.

The Singapore Fashion Festival is thus one of the most elaborate and grand festivals of the country and hence worth attending. In the year 2007 the festival will be held from the 23rd of March to 1st April.
