At other times the decorative array is usually removed, but, most of the times the drum remains aboard for the purpose of training.

Singapore Dragon Boat Race Festival is traditionally held to remember the death of Qu Yuan, the famous Chinese patriot poet. The festival is observed in order to make Dragonboating the only sport to be celebrated as a national holiday.
