Originally a school building in Telok Kurau, in 1997 the Telok Kurau Studios, Singapore was rebuilt into an extraordinary arts studio. Built in 1960, the school in Telok Kurau comprised 28 classrooms which had an area o about 60 square meters each. It was a part of the Telok Kurau West Primary School which later became a part of the LaSalle, SIA College of Arts.

The Arts Housing Scheme offered an option to the artists of the time to apply for an admission in the Telok Kurau Studios, Singapore, rent a room either individually or with others and work together toward extraordinary artistic creation. This scheme was made with an aim to provide equal opportunities to the established as well as upcoming artists by offering a nominal room tariff and freezing the period of lease to a maximum of two years.
