Telok Ayer Street is a historic street located in Singapore's China Town. It has been so named because it was a coastal road adjacent to the Telok Ayer Bay which is located at the foot of Mount Wallich. It is one of the first public roads in downtown Singapore.Way back in 1822, Sir Stamford Raffles had set aside Telok Ayer Street for the Chinese who were migrating from China. It became the central point of Chinese settlement. Slave Trade and other mercantile activities were also carried on from this place.
