History of Busan

History of Busan can be divided in various period of time:

The Paleolithic Age –History of Busan can be traced about 18,000 B.C when the ruins of Jung-dong, Jwa-dong in Haeundae-gu were found.
The Neolithic Age – History of Busan truly started with this new age as this is the Age when life began in Busan, about 6,000 B.C. ago. Life started around seas, rivers; hunting, fishing and primitive farming was the main occupation.
 
The Bronze Age – life centered on the hilly districts of the inland in around 1000 B.C
Pottery Culture and farming as their occupation.

The Three Hans Period – 150 B.C. sees the beginning of Korean history, focusing on the iron culture. Revealed many iron ruins

The Gaya Kingdom Period / The Three Kingdoms Period – this period in the history of Busan can be marked as period of rulers with Geumgwan-gaya in Kimhae, starting individual control, accepting Silla's culture. Soon Silla had absorbed Geumgwan-gaya

The Unified Silla Kingdom Period - Silla combined Three Kingdoms

The Goryeo Dynasty Period - Establishment of Goryeo

The Joseon Dynasty Period / The Port Opening Period – Commencement of trade started from Busan Port. In 1876 A.D. Busan opened its port at Joseon. In 1900A.D. Busan witnessed the first electric lights in the city.

The Japanese Invasion Period - 1910 A.D., Japan invaded Korea by force,
1936 A.D. Launch of freedom struggle against the Japanese troop, like the Students’ anti-Japanese movement.

In Aug 1945, Independence was restored; a lot of change took place thereafter;

‘50s
The Korean War broke out in June
Reposition a government of the Republic of Korea to Busan in Aug 1953.

‘60s
"April Revolution" broke out in 1960
Thereafter the city brought under the direct control of the government.

‘70s
Busan Democracy Contention in October, 1979.‘80s
Busan Democracy Contention took place in June, 1987.

‘90s
Economic crisis (IMF) broke out in Busan in 1990.
Busan City Assembly opens in July 1991.
From the direct control of the government the city changed to a
metropolitan city.
First government elected by popular vote in June, 1995
