New Year's Festival in Busan
To greet the forthcoming New Year, New Year's Festival in Busan is celebrated every year with much of pomp and grandeur. The New Year's Festival in Busan is perhaps the most popular and Korea’s largest winter festival, celebrated by all the citizens of Busan and especially by the foreigners visiting Busan.The New Year's Festival in Busan, organized by the Busan Culture and Tourism Festival Organizing Committee (BUFOC) was first held in the year 1999. Since then this festival is held every year from the New Year's Eve, December, 31st to the New Years Day, January, 1st at the Haeundae Beach area of the Yongdusan Park in Busan. Thousands of people including the foreign tourists come here to enjoy the New Year eve and party whole night to welcome the bright New Year with pleasure and fun. Some other famous tourist sites like Dadaego Beach, Gwangalli Beach and Dalmaji Park also organizes both small and large events for those who are unable to come for the main New Year's Festival in Yongdusan Park in Busan.
The New Year's Festival in Busan is also called the Sunrise Busan Festival as from the hilltop of Yongdusan Park; all people get a clear view to watch the beautiful and the first sunrise of the New Year. Sponsored by the Busan Metropolitan City, Korean Information Service, Korean Culture and Arts Foundation, Korea National Tourism Organization, the New Year's Festival in Busan offers different types of dance performances, performances on traditional folk arts of Busan and other artistic events. The New Year's Festival in Busan also includes an air show and a ship flotilla at sea. Most of the foreigners however, come here to enjoy the fireworks in the sky and the last bell-ringing event of the year. By offering such an array of cultural events this festival has emerged as the foremost cultural festival of winter.
Local Transportation:
Bus: From Busan Station, take bus No. 40, 139, 140, 239 or 240 and get off at Haeundae station (subway line No. 2). From there, it is a 10-minute walk to Haeundae Beach.
Subway: Take subway line No. 1 and transfer to subway line No. 2 at Seomyeon station, and then continue to Haeundae subway station. From there, it is a 10-minute walk to Haeundae Beach.
