Polar Bear Swimming Competition, Busan is one of the festivities among the various New Year’s festivities held in Busan. During the month of January every year Polar Bear Swimming Competition, Busan take place with much excitement. People from all over the world come to Busan to take part in the much hyped event of Polar Bear Swimming Competition, Busan. The participants run along the beach of Haeundae during the initial moment and then take a plunge into the water to take a bathe. Since the event takes place during the season of winter so the water remains ice-cold. Inspite of the water being chilled that it is difficult for the swimmers to swim, the competition is so energizing that the swimmers forget about it. It is not an event alike the common athletic competition where sorting of best athletes take place. It is an event when the people pray for the welfare of the community as well as promoting the health of the citizens’ mind and body in the upcoming year.The Polar Bear Swimming Competition, Busan includes the Haeundae White Sand Races and the Haeundae Ocean Swimming Contests. The other events of the competition comprise of Polar Bear Eve Night at O’Kim’s, Ice Carving Competition, Lucky Draw and Performances on the beach. There are two different course of ocean swimming. The longer course is of 80 meters and those who are reluctant to take the longer course can avail of the 20 meters course. The longer course is the 20 meter strip of beach and the shorter course is the 80 meter area of the sea.There is a limitation of the participants numbering to 2,000 who can take part in the competition. But it will be done according to the order of their arrival. The participants taking part in the competition will be provided with T-shirts, Souvenirs and Lunch.
