Built in the early 7th century, Buinsa is a famous temple in Daegu which stands amidst the hills to the south of Mt. Palgong at Shinmu-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu city. Buinsa Temple, Daegu used to have two identical pagodas. The two pagodas are considered to have originally been constructed during the Unified Silla period (668-935). But only the west Pagoda of Buinsa Temple, Daegu was reconstructed in 1964. The Pagoda of Buinsa Temple, Daegu is curved in a typical pagoda style with a two-stepped foundation and a three-story body. On May 30, 1988 the west Pagoda of Buinsa Temple, Daegu was declared as the Local Tangible Cutural Property No. 17 by the City of Daegu. It was a highly revered temple during the Goryeo Dynasty. It may be mentioned that during the Goryeo Dynasty, there used to be a market open entirely for monks in Buinsa.
