Considering the penchant of Daegu for all things cultural and artistic, there is no ignoring the city's passion for cinemas and theatre. Cinemas and Theatres in Daegu are as much a mode of entertainment as much as a mode of artistic expression for the performing artists. There are only a handful of Cinemas and movie theaters in Daegu located outside of downtown; however, more will be built soon.

There are two very large theaters in Downtown area of Daegu - Hanil Gukjang and the Joong-ang Cinema. Both of them are set up sort of Western style, which makes it very easy for foreigners to use them. That apart there are other theatres and cinemas in Daegu as well.
