Daejeon Citizen Football Club

Daejeon Citizen Football Club is presently the most celebrated South Korean Football team playing for the K league. Their renown is chiefly because they were the first community club which was not sponsored by any specific business organization. Literally the club was supported by the community members. In daejeon what happens is that a community club usually issues shares but Daejeon Citizen Football Club, didn't do this until 2005. The club struggled a lot in order to gain fame and recognition . Under severe financial crisis the team won the the 2001 Korean FA Cup and is being considered as one of the favorites in the K league.

A time came when the club faced severe problems with team management . But then with the incorporation of Kim Ki Bok, the team was infused with fresh energy and worked hard to meet all the challenges. With the IMF crisis the club had undergone severe financial crunches as the members of the board went almost bankrupt and were unable to support the team.

With Lee tae Ho taking the lead of the team , Daejeon Citizen Football Club, came to the forefront as the winner of the 2001 FA Cup. But with the approaching World Cup of the year 2002, Korea being one of the host countries, Daejon saw some of the chilliest winters in their entire lifespan. Performance was not up to the mark and consequently the results became poorer. Lee resigned at the end of the gala world cup celebrations which saw Citizens winning only one of the twenty seven games allotted to them.

But to their rescue the next season in the year 2003 saw miracles happening to the club. Daejeon Citizen Football Club attained the sixth position in the K league after Choi Yun Gyeom took charge of the reigns. The long craved position the club was pining for seemed nearby and Daejeon Citizen Football Club revived its spirits wonderfully
