Parks and Gardens in Seoul

Seoul is the capital and also the largest city of South Korea. The city is one of the most densely populated cities in the world. The city is located on the Han River in the northwest of South Korea. A number of parks and gardens are situated all over the city which give residents a respite from the concrete jungles they are surrounded by. The city has a number of parks and gardens that are frequented by locals and tourists during the weekends to get a brief respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Paris Park in Seoul is one of the popular parks which was built inside the Mokdong apartment housing area in 1987. The park was built to symbolize the friendship between Korea and France. The park comprises of several sections such as the Seoul Plaza, Paris Plaza, a multi-purpose square, pond, and outdoor exhibition lot.

Samneung Park is one of the prominent parks in the city of Seoul. The park consists of several tomb mounds. The green hillocks signify the tomb of a person in high power or position. Seolleung is the royal mausoleum of Seongjong who was the 9th king of the Joseon Dynasty and his queen Jeonghyeon. The queen and king are buried in separate mounds in the same yard. The tombs were dug up by the Japanese Soldiers when the Japanese had invaded Korea in 1952. Subsequently they have been restored to their former glory.

Namsan Park or South Hill as it is popularly known had once marked the southern edge of Seoul many generations ago.
