Daeseung Falls in South Korea

Daeseung Falls in South Korea was famous as a major recreation site of King Gyeong-Sun (reign 927 - 935), the last king of Silla Dynasty (BC 57 - AD 935). When it comes to size, it is twice as large as those of Guryong Falls of Mt. Geumgangsan or Bakyeon Falls of Gaeseong. It is located in the Naeseorak area of the Mt. Seoraksan.

  -   Daeseung Falls in South Korea is located at Hangye 3-ri, Buk-myeon, Inje-gun in Gangwon-do Province.
  -   There is a large rock across from the Daeseung Falls where in Chinese characters 'Gucheoneunha' is carved.

  -   If you pass to the left of Jangsudae ticket booth, go past the Sajung Falls and climb up a steep and rocky path, you will reach an observatory area.

  -   Walk on the right walkway for 5 minutes to the Daseungryeong and you will find a narrow path that leads right up to the waterfall.

  -   According to the legend, once upon a time there lived a person called Daeseung who was alone after his parents died when he was young and lived by selling mushrooms.
  -   One day when he was ploughing with his body tied to a rope hung under the rock pillar of the waterfall, he heard his mother's voice calling for him.
  -   When he climbed up to the top of the cliff, he found a large centipede instead cutting the rope.
  -   After the name of the man from the myth, the waterfall came to be known as Daeseung because of the mother's voice that saved her son's life.
  -   You can take a bus bound for Yangyang from the Inje Intercity Bus Terminal and get off at Jangsudae bus stop after a 30 minutes' ride.
  -   Or you can conveniently take a cab to Jangsdae from the Inje Intercity Bus Terminal, it takes 20 - 25 minutes to reach.
