Olympic Ring
Located on Mount Montjuic, Olympic Ring was one of the four important venues for 1992 Summer Olympic in Barcelona. The Rimg’s stadium had hosted the opening as well as the closing ceremony of 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics.Apart from the Stadium Ring comprises has a modern, Picornell Swimming pools, the Sant Jordi Sports Hall- a building designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki and another building National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia. Picornell Swimming pools were constructed in 1969 and underwent a lot of renovations for the Olympics.The newest additions to Olympic Ring have been a baseball ground, a round pond and an acclimatization garden.
Palau Sant Jordi is a significant part of Olympic Ring and performs various functions. Besides being a veue for number of sporting activiies, Palau Sant Jordi also hosts musical concerts and other public events. Palau Sant Jordi is special to Olympic Ring and is fascinating to look from outside too. The ceiling of this beautiful building is lined with glass ceramic tiles and zinc plates making a complex yet a beautiful network.
The Olympic Stadium in Olympic Ring too is used for activities apart from sports. In the past the Stadium has also opened its doors to musical extravaganzas and cultural fairs. The stadium is a creation of the architect Pere Domènech i Roure, who was the son of Modernist Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The path to the Stadium has beautiful statues chiseled by Pau Gargallo.
There are number of buses which make daily trips from centre Barcelona to the mountain Montjuic. The trip to Olympic Ring is memorable in itself since it brings several breathtaking sceneries in view.
