Located in the northeast of Spain and very close to Barcelona, the province of Girona is stretched across an area of 5,886 square kilometers. The capital of this province is also Girona. Inhabited by almost half a million residents, the entire province is divided into 6 judicial districts, 8 regions and 235 municipal districts. The eight regions in Girona are: El Gironés, La Garrotxa, El Baix Empordá, El Alt Empordá, Pla de I’Estany, Selva, Ripollés and Cerdanya.
