Madrid Weather
The weather of Madrid is influenced by the temperate Mediterranean climate with cold winters and temperatures below zero degrees. Summers are warm with temperatures that exceed 30 degrees Celsius in July and can reach up to 40. On account of the high altitude and arid climate, nightly temperatures are cooler that results in a lower average monthly temperature. Precipitation levels are low, but are observed all around the year. The driest seasons are summer and winter and most of the rainfall occurs in the autumn and spring seasons. The average annual rainfall is 436 mm; winters are cool across the region with frequent frosts and occasional snowfalls. The weather of Madrid is hot in the summer months, although temperatures are much lower in the Sierra de Guadarrama which experiences abundant rain and snow. Specifically, Navacerrada at a height of 1890 m receives an annual rainfall of 1326 mm, although much of it occurs in the form of snow. Located in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula, the rain fronts come from either the Mediterranean or the Atlantic, in plenty. Located at the exact geographical center of the Iberian Peninsula, at latitude of 40 degrees 25 minutes north, 3 degrees 42 minutes west, the fact that Madrid is situated further west than even London is rather a surprise.
Built on a series of small mounts, between which flows the River Manzanares,
the average atmospheric pressure of Madrid is 706.7 mm. In the colder seasons,
the minimum temperatures that fall below the freezing point are easily juxtaposed
by the burning conditions of the summer months. The bearable humidity levels
result in conditions that are one of Europe's healthiest. One of the reasons
for this is the privileged position of Madrid, a short distance from Somosierra
(north), Guadarrama (north east) and Toledo (south east) mountain ranges.
