The Army Museum in Madrid has a brilliant collection of arms and armors and displays various memorabilia of the Spanish Military history. The Museum is located in the Buen Retiro Palace.

History of the Army Museum, Madrid: The Army Museum owes its foundation to Manuel Godoy, the minister of Charles IV, who established the museum in 1803. There are swords and weapons belonging to legendary and historical characters.

Collections: There are plenty of intriguing exhibits that have thrilled the visitors for years. Can you imagine seeing the swords of El Cid, the hero of European literature, in front of your eyes? Well this not the end! There is a separate section in the museum that displays the Moorish weapons of ancient times when the Arabs inhabited Madrid. There is a grand velvet coat and also a huge sword belonging to Boabdil who was the last Moorish king of Madrid. The collections displayed in the Museum also represent Pizzaro and Cortes. A piece of the cross that Columbus had carried on his historical voyage to America is also to be found in this museum. Among the Japanese collection that the museum possesses there is a kabuto and seven complete suits of armors that are beautifully designed with colored pieces of cotton and silk. The relics probably belong to the late Edo period. There are also many strange inscriptions etched on them that probably intend to convey some important message. These relics are really very interesting to look at.

The Army Museum is supposed to become a part of the Museo Del Prado in the recent future.
