Madrid, Spain is well-known for its high-rise constructions. The Torre de Madrid or the Tower of Madrid is one of the most famous buildings in Spain. It is rated as the thirteenth tallest building of the city in 2007. Situated in the Plaza de España, known as Spain square once upon a time it was the only tallest edifices of Madrid, Spain. This enormous building was built in 1957 and designed by José Otamendi Machimbarrena who also designed the nearby ‘Edificio España’, for the Metrovacesa Company.
The Torre de Madrid, Spain has a height of 142 meters. The architectural style of this building is a high-rise and remained the tallest skyscrapers of Europe during the period of its construction. But ten years later its construction another structure called Tour du Midi, in Brussels which is150 m high outshined the glamour of Torre de Madrid, in the year 1967. However Torre de Madrid remained the tallest building in Madrid from 1957 to 1989 until Torre Picasso surpassed it as a new tall building of the era.
