Torre España is one of the most outstanding towers of Madrid and a must visit tourist spot in Madrid, Spain. This torre or tower is actually a television tower which is situated in Madrid, Spain. Torre España literally meaning Spain Tower was built in the year 1982 in order to memorialize the most celebrated FIFA World Cup which Spain hosted in that year.
Interestingly Torre Espana or Spain Tower is known by different names as such. It is called “Torrespaña". Also in Madrid the Torre España is popularly known as “piruli” which means a lollipop in Spanish as the structure of the tower resembles a lollipop.
This 231 meter television tower is constructed of steel and concrete and houses a few radio stations which are broadcasted from this tower. RTVE managed the Torre España till the year 1989 and afterwards the control of radio and television emissions in Spanish territory was given to Retevisión.
