This festival has graduated to become one of the largest festivals in the whole of Taiwan and it is essentially a moon festival that falls in the middle of the eighth lunar Chinese month when the moon is at its full glory. The full moon is a symbol of happiness and it is a time for the reunion of families and catch up with some old memories.

The moon has always been an inspiration for the Chinese poets as it has been invoked time and again in the Chinese poetry. The festival is an occasion in which one is supposed to sacrifice to the Moon Goddess. This festival has been merged with the legend of eating moon cakes and it has had a positive effect on the psyche of the people as the Mid Autumn Festival had graduated in becoming one of the major festivals in the Chinese calendar.
