Victory Monument
Victory Monument, Bangkok was erected in 1941 to commemorate those soldiers, policemen and civilians who laid down their lives at the altar of their country. The monument marks the triumph of Thailand over the French colonial authorities in Indo-China.
Marble and concrete have gone into the construction of the Victory Monument, Bangkok which is shaped like five bayonets clasped together and towering to a height of 50 meters. The base of the monument is graced by the statues representative of the army, navy, air-force, police and civilian services. There are bronze plates under the statues in which are inscribed the names of the people who sacrificed their lives during the Franco-Thai conflict.
The Victory Monument, Bangkok is entirely designed in the western style. This monument poses a sharp contrast to the Democracy Monument nearby which makes generous use of Thai forms and symbols. The importance of the monument can be realized by the custom that requires the foreign dignitaries visiting Thailand to lay a wreath at the foot of the monument as a show of respect. Victory Monument, Bangkok is one of the most familiar landmarks in Bangkok. Located in one of Bangkok's major traffic intersections the Victory Monument is one of the most easily accessible places in Bangkok.| Hotels in Bangkok | |
