The Chiang Mai National Museum is one of the well known museums in Chiang Mai. It is located in close proximity of the Wat Jet Yod area of the city. The museum was opened to general public on 6th February in the year 1973. It provides an insight into the rich heritage of Thailand.

Chiang Mai National Museum is based under the patronage of Royal Majesties, the King and Queen. It has been assigned as the centre of education and the preservation of art and culture by the fine Arts Department of the city.

The Chiang Mai National Museum consists of a two storey traditional northern of Lan Na style rooftop. Visitors have to pass through six sections of exhibits, which provide us with insights on history of Chiang Mai. The museum also showcases relics of the natural and cultural background of the city. The exhibits also include relics of the ecology and geography of Chiang Mai.

We also come to know about the prehistoric settlements in this region by visiting the Chiang Mai National Museum. You can have an idea of the city's liberation from the Burmese and its re-establishment starting from 1782.

The second floor, of the museum is dedicated to trade and economy of the Lanna Kingdom. It also displays photographs and artifacts that showcase the modern life in Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai National Museum also highlights its agricultural industry, and its relation with global industry. The exhibition display's numerous photographs that gives us information on the prehistoric historic settlements, the history and culture of the region, the present scenario and the prospective future of Chiang Mai.

You can visit the Chiang Mai National Museum from Wednesday to Sunday. It remains opens from 9 in the morning to 4 in the evening. The admission fee is Baht 30 per person.
